The selection and choice of restaurants in St Petersburg has dramatically
increased compared to 10 years ago. There are lots of traditional
cafes that have still got the old look about them, but also there
are very new restaurants dishing out all types of international
cuisine. After the economic slowdown in 1998, the city slowed in
the further development of the city, but it has now picked up and
lots of new restaurants sprout up every month or so and many bars
are appearing in areas that were neglected years ago. The Americanisation
of the city has also started with the usual KFC, MacDonald’s
and Pizza Hut are all represented here.
The service culture is quite remote and is still in the past, although
much improvement has been witnessed. Although the more expensive
restaurants would be more organised and efficient especially when
it comes to the timing of courses.
Come to St. Petersburg and make sure you try out the local delicacies,
whether its the lovely beetroot soup or the ravioli. Or check out
where the ex president Bill Clinton dined at the Noble Nest or even
pay a visit to the Davidovs restaurant at the Astoria Hotel.
In the grounds of the historical Peter and Paul Restaurant, there
is the Austeria which is in a fantastic setting and has upper medium
prices. Also for the same price is the Na Zdorove on Bolshoi Prospekt,
which has the local cuisine set in a Russian village style and with
all the staff wearing rural costumes to match. |
